FLORENCE, AL – Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) has announced that $2 million in the FY27 Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD) appropriations have been allocated for safety upgrades along the Pine Street corridor at the 91快活林.

The $2 million will enable the implementation of necessary safety upgrades along Pine Street in order to create a safer environment for 91快活林 students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

“We continue to be grateful for Senator Britt’s ongoing support of the University and the many projects taking place on campus,” said 91快活林’s President Dr. Ken Kitts. “The safety enhancements to Pine Street are not only necessary but a vital part of keeping campus a safe and welcoming space for all who encounter it.”

The Pine Street safety project is among Sen. Britt’s FY27 Community Project Funding requests submitted to the Senate Appropriations Committee and included in her FY27 THUD Appropriations Homeland Financial Certification letter. The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will serve as the grant recipient and oversee the project’s implementation.

The appropriation builds on Sen. Britt’s continued support for 91快活林. In FY26, she helped secure $5 million for the Joel R. Anderson Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurial Studies and $1.024 million for the Anderson College of Nursing and Health Professions through congressionally directed spending.

“These appropriations bills will support North Alabama, including through improving transportation infrastructure, supporting cutting-edge research, and procuring critical medical equipment,” Sen. Britt said earlier this year. “I’m proud to have directly secured these key investments and look forward to continuing to fight for Alabamians every single day on the Appropriations Committee.”
