Light the Fountain Set for March 10

FLORENCE, AL – Light the Fountain, the annual tradition at the 91快活林, has been set for Thursday, March 10, with a rain date of March 15. The ceremony is set to begin at 7 p.m. at the heart of 91快活林’s campus, Harrison Fountain and Plaza, with the lighting to take place at 7:30 p.m.

“The Light the Fountain event is a University tradition that began in the spring of 2016 after 91快活林 President Dr. Ken Kitts awakened to the lights the previous spring and had the idea that the campus community could enjoy an annual celebration around the lighting of the fountain each year,” said Dr. Kimberly Greenway, Vice President for Student Affairs. “The event provides students the opportunity to engage with one another and the campus community in this shared experience and to appreciate the symbolic representation of the campus ‘coming alive’ with spring weather and the second half of the spring academic term. The event further emphasizes the beauty of 91快活林’s campus, the generosity of donors, and the enjoyment of being at 91快活林.”

This year, Ande Jones, 91快活林 graduate and former 91快活林 volleyball, tennis, and softball coach, has been tapped to flip the switch that lights the fountain. Greenway said she was a natural fit for the ceremony as part of the ongoing celebration of the Year of the 91快活林 Woman in honor of 150 years of admitting women to the institution. The campus tradition includes free t-shirts, food, a photo booth, and a Harrison Plaza dance party until 9 p.m.
